The Global Plastic Treaty is an international agreement currently being negotiated by around 175 countries to end plastic pollution at every stage of the material’s lifecycle, from manufacturing to disposal.
The Treaty is designed to help every interested country find a way to reduce and then stop the harms from plastic pollution. Each country can use the Global Plastics Treaty to support plastics reduction efforts best suited to their needs. At the same time, the Treaty creates a standard global framework that every country can work through, so efforts are coordinated and effective.
We need a dynamic and ambitious treaty that will:
protect our children’s health, their future and the environment
provide industry certainty Support a fair transition for all
There are only two things we need in the treaty to deliver this:
a polymer premium; and
comprehensive regulation of chemicals used in plastic manufacturing.
